Holy week Triduum at St. Mary’s Church Hegde Nagar

The Holy Week Triduum, comprising Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil, was prayerfully and solemnly celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Hegde Nagar. Services were held in Kannada, English, and Tamil, inviting the faithful each day to enter deeply into the Paschal Mystery of Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection. The celebrations were organized to cater to the spiritual needs of the diverse parish community.

Maundy Thursday holds a special place in the life of the Church, as it commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the priesthood, and recalls Jesus’ commandment of love through humble service. The celebration invited the faithful to reflect on Christ’s self-giving love, especially as seen in the washing of the feet of His disciples, and to live that same spirit of service in their daily lives. In his homily, Fr. Jeswin Binoy, OCD, encouraged the faithful to reflect deeply on the meaning of love expressed through humble service. He reminded them that Maundy Thursday is not just a remembrance of an event, but a call to live this commandment in everyday life.

Good Friday began with the traditional Way of the Cross conducted in all three languages—Kannada, English, and Tamil. A large number of people gathered at the church to commemorate the suffering and death of Jesus on the Cross. In the afternoon, the Good Friday service was led by the parish priest, Boniface D’Souza, along with Fr. Jeswin Binoy, who delivered a simple yet powerful message. He reminded the faithful, “The Cross is not the end of hope but the beginning of a new life. It teaches us that true love is always sacrificial.” His words touched many hearts and encouraged people to see their own struggles in the light of Christ’s sacrifice.

The Easter Vigil service was led by Fr. Rudolf Pinto, Secretary to the Liturgical Commission of India, whose inspiring and thought-provoking homily helped the congregation reflect profoundly on the self-giving love of the Risen Lord. On Easter Day, the Mass in Kannada was celebrated by Fr. Ivan Sanctis, who preached with passion and clarity, touching the hearts of the faithful and guiding them spiritually through each liturgical moment. In Tamil, Fr. Selva Kumar delivered meaningful reflections, offering the Tamil-speaking community a rich spiritual experience of the Triduum.

At the end of the Mass, the parish priest thanked all those who participated in the liturgies. The celebrations were conducted in a meaningful and well-organized manner. The melodious choir prayerfully uplifted the hearts of the faithful to God. Special appreciation was extended to Mr. Sunil Quadros, who took overall responsibility for coordinating the readings, ushering, and altar service.

The three-day celebration was a powerful experience of grace and renewal, uniting the parish community in the joy and hope of the Risen Lord.
