St. Mary’s Church, Hegdenagar, joyfully celebrated the First Holy Communion on 18th April, where eighteen children received Jesus for the first time in the Holy Eucharist. It was a grace-filled and memorable occasion for the entire parish community.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Richard Saldhana, OCD, who delivered a touching and heartfelt homily on the significance of the Eucharist, helping the children and the faithful deepen their understanding of this sacred sacrament. Fr. Selva Kumar, OCD, and Fr. Ivan Sanctis, OCD, concelebrated the Holy Mass with devotion and reverence.
The children participated enthusiastically and prayerfully in the Eucharistic celebration, expressing their joy and faith as they received Jesus into their hearts for the first time. Prior to this, the children underwent ten days of intensive preparation, during which they were taught the basics of catechism and prayers.
Parish Priest Fr. Boniface D’Souza, OCD, expressed his deep appreciation to the choir members for their melodious singing, which beautifully uplifted the hearts of the faithful in praising God. Special thanks were extended to St. Ann’s Convent sisters for guiding the children in their catechism preparation. The Parish Priest also thanked Mrs. Jacqueline, who enthusiastically taught catechism throughout the year with great dedication.
At the end of the Mass, as a token of blessing and remembrance, scapulars, rosaries, and certificates were distributed to all the children. The celebration concluded with a sense of joy, thanksgiving, and renewed faith among all present.
