The feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, popularly known as Monti Fest, was celebrated with great devotion and joy at St. Mary’s Church, Hegde Nagar. This feast, which holds a special place in the hearts of the Konkani-speaking Catholic community, is not only a religious solemnity but also a family celebration that emphasizes unity, gratitude, and reverence for Mother Mary.
The solemn Eucharistic celebration was held in honor of the Blessed Mother at 11:00 AM. Flowers were offered at the Marian grotto, and new corns were blessed and distributed. The main celebrant of the Mass was Rudolf Pinto OCD, the national secretary for liturgy. Parish Priest Fr. Boniface D. Souza OCD, Fr. Paul D’Souza from the Varanasi diocese and national director (PMO) of the Pontifical Mission Organization, Fr. Donald D. Souza SVD, Fr. Selva Kumar OCD, superior of the house, Fr. Ivan Sanctis OCD, and Fr. Melvin Lasrado OCD concelebrated the Holy Mass. The liturgy was conducted with deep devotion, and the homily emphasized the significance of Mother Mary’s birth as a moment of hope and grace for humanity. The faithful were reminded to imitate her humility, obedience, and unwavering trust in God. The atmosphere was prayerful and spiritually enriching, with active participation from the congregation.
Following the Mass, all parishioners and guest priests were warmly welcomed to share the traditional festive meal in the community hall. Konkani Core committee members and kind-hearted donors generously sponsored the festival meal. It was a joyful time of fellowship and communion, strengthening bonds of unity, love, and gratitude. The celebration was marked not only by devotion but also by cultural richness as it brought together people of all ages to honor Mother Mary and to give thanks for the gifts of family and harvest. The day ended with hearts full of gratitude, as parishioners took home blessed corn to use in their family meals, symbolizing the importance of faith and unity in family life.
The Monti feast at St. Mary’s Church, Hegde Nagar, was thus a beautiful blend of faith tradition and fellowship, leaving the parish community spiritually renewed and united.
