On 26th April 2025, St. Mary’s Church, Hegde Nagar, joyfully celebrated the first holy communion of thirty-one children. The solemn celebration began at 4:30 P.m. and Was Presided over by Fr. Richard Saldanha OCD, parish priest, Fr. Boniface Dsouza, Fr. Henry Moras, Fr. Ivan Sanctis, and Deacon Movin. The children, dressed in white, participated devoutly and received the body and blood of Christ for the first time, marking an important milestone in their faith journey.
The children adorned in traditional white attire, symbolizing purity, approached the altar for the first time to receive the body and blood of Christ, marking a significant milestone in their spiritual lives. In his homily, Fr. Richard Saldanha highlighted the importance of the Eucharist as the source and summit of Christian life, encouraging the children to remain close to Jesus through regular participation in the sacrament.
Parents, family members, and parishioners witnessed this beautiful occasion with great joy and reverence. The celebration was the fruit of months of careful preparation led by the dedicated team of catechists who guided the children in understanding the mystery of the holy Eucharist and deepening their relationship with Christ. The liturgy was made more meaningful with the active involvement of the children in the readings, prayers of the faithful, and offertory procession.
Following the Mass, scapulars and Rosaries were blessed and presented to each communicant. A bible was gifted to each communicant. On behalf of the Parish priest, Cruz Doss extended his heartfelt gratitude to the parents, catechist, and all those who contributed to the success of the day. the celebration concluded with refreshments for children who received holy Communion.
As a parish, we continue to pray for these young communicants that they may grow in faith, love, and devotion to the Lord and remain faithful witnesses of Christ in their daily lives.
